THE REMAINS of two cats have been found on a closing landfill site following reports of men with terriers in the area.
Freshfield’s Animal Rescue Centre, Cilgwyn, have taken action after worried resident, Sandra Hilton, contacted them when a neighbour informed her workers on the council owned site had found the body of a feral cat. Mrs Hilton, who lives above the site, was shocked by the situation.

“It is terrible. My husband had heard barking, but he told me after the dead cats were found as he didn’t think anything of it. Then a neighbour said men with terriers had been in the area and workers on the site had found the remains of one of the cats. This cat was so friendly, the workers loved it and would have taken it home. It died in a terrible way. I can’t believe it happened on my doorstep.“

Freshfield’s centre have started to catch the cats in safe traps and are looking for owners for the pets. Leslie Tarleton of Freshfield’s stressed the situation has now become urgent. The tip is closing down in December so we would have rescued the cats anyway, but after we were contacted we had to save the cats immediately.”

A Gwynedd Council spokesperson explained that the authority were aware of the issue; he said: “We will be liaising with the North Wales Police and are monitoring the situation to ensure that no feral cats around the Cilgwyn site are mistreated in any way."

If you would like to give a loving home to one of the cats, could use working cats on a farm or stable, or want to make a donation to the animal centre, contact Freshfield’s on 01286 880808. All cats will be neutered and spayed before they are given a home.
