A COACH company will plant a tree for every passenger they take on holiday starting from this weekend.

Silver Star Coach Holidays, will launch their new initiative this Sunday at 2pm with the help of actor and musician Bryn Fon in Castle Square, Caernarfon.

Silver Star estimates that 15,000 trees will be planted around the region which will offse
t the carbon footprint stamped down by their coaches.

Groups will be able to register for their free trees on the day or take away information and application forms for the scheme named Silver Leaf.

Bryn Fon will be making an appearance to officially launch the scheme along with a group of children who will be the recipients of the first trees.

Silver Star own seven coaches and rack up 377,000 miles a year taking passengers to their holiday destinations.

Marketing Assistant Karen White said the coaches consume £238,530 of diesel each year and the company felt it was time to put something back into the community.

"We carry 15,000 customers per year so we will give a tree back to the community for each one of our passengers," she said.

"The point of doing this is to put something back into the environment."

The Silver Leaf scheme is being run in partnership with Gwynedd County Council and the trees will be grown at the Glyn Llifon nursery south of Caernarfon.
