A WELCOME £6,000 boost has been given to Island sportsmen and women thanks to the Ynys M'n community chest grants.

Seven different Island sports clubs have benefited from the grant, including Llangefni cricket club and Gaerwen's football team. The latter received £920 for training equipment, whilst the Llangefni club were bowled over by a £1000 award.

Another beneficiary was the Ynys Môn Angling Association, who were given £820 to send members on coaching courses.

Principal sports development officer, Sian Mai Jones, said: "Funded by the Sports Council for Wales, the community chest offers up to £1,000 for any group wanting to organise activities aimed at getting more people to be more active, more often."

The panel meet five times per year, and the next closing date for applications is April 15.

In addition, two funding seminars, designed to raise awareness of available funding for sports clubs and organisations, will be held, at Valley Hotel, Valley, on April 8 and the Dinorben Hotel, Amlwch, on April 15.

To find out more, call Mandy Jones at the sports development unit on 01248 752026.
