THE Chronicle told last week of how Mwgi, 21, could be the oldest cat on Anglesey.
However, Stephanie Looney, 29, and her sister Gemma, of Glan Ffrydlas in Bethesda, could be the owners of one of Gwynedd’s oldest cat in Fluffy, 20.
Gemma received Fluffy as a gift from her parents in October 1990, an Stephanie said that their beloved pet has not changed much over the years.
“He’s such a baby. You’ll never see him catch mice,” she said. “He still plays with a ball and goes for things that move, and he still wants to go on your knee and sleep.”
Fluffy is very much the boss when it comes to Stephanie and Gemma’s other cats, Floss, two, and Tabatha, eight.
“It’s like he’s a father for them,” she said.
“He’s always been like that, cuddling up with them and sleeping by the fire.”
Apart from a few missing teeth and some weight loss, the years have been kind to Fluffy. Stephanie said: “When I take him to the vet for a check up, the vets always think he’s a lot younger.”
The secret to Fluffy’s long life was to be fed regularly and treated well, according to Stephanie, who lives with her eight-month-old son Daniel and her sister Gemma.
She added: “There’s a myth, and I don’t know whether it’s true, that black cats live longer.”
