A FIVE minute purple patch effectively settled the points in this Huws Gray Cymru Alliance encounter last Saturday.
The Anglesey club secured an 8-3 verdict in mid-Wales last November, but it was a more resolute Welshpool outfit that took the field in the return encounter.
An uneven pitch cramped the home style a bit and it was the visitors who started better with both sides failing to create any openings until the half hour mark when Darren Thomas rifled home a thirty yard free kick which took a slight deflection of the wall.
It effectively opened up the floodgates and two minutes later Thomas outpaced former Bangor City defender Dave Swanick - sent off when Cefni played City in the Welsh Premier - and his slide rule cross was met by Marc Evans.
It was three ten minutes before the interval when Steve Kehoe and Tom Dix linked with Evans to play in Leigh Craven for the third, and Cefni captain Graham Austin was unlucky to see an effort hit the bar.
Keeper Mike Innes was kept busy after the break as the Lilywhites responded positively, but the hosts continued to create chances with Thomas going close and Austin once again denied by the woodwork at the end of normal time.
Although well out of the honours race, the reigning champions still have a part to play and will be looking to build on a solid all round performance as visit high flying Connah’s Quay Nomads and Cefn Druids in the next week.
