AN ANGLESEY man has cooked up a delicious engagement gift for the Island’s very own Royal couple.
Benjamin Lee, 34, who owns Y Becws Mefus in Llangefni, made a luxury chocolate cake to mark Prince William and Kate Middleton’s engagement.
Benjamin felt that it was important to show his support to the Royal couple, who live in a cottage near the Prince’s base at RAF Valley.
He said: “I thought it would be a nice gesture from the people of Anglesey.
“I think they have a difficult job to come and they’re the new generation.”
The cake, which included handmade chocolate butterflies that represented the couple, took two days to make.
The Prince’s 22 Squadron search and rescue colleagues delivered the cake to him at the base.
Benjamin said: “The feedback I got from the RAF guys was that Prince William thoroughly enjoyed the cake and he took some back home, so I’m sure Kate enjoyed it too.”
The Prince and Kate Middleton are to marry at Westminster Abbey on Friday, April 29.
The cake maker, who met Prince William at an event on the Mona Showground while he was a student at Coleg Menai five years ago, believes that the engagement is a popular match on the island.
Benjamin said: ”I can’t speak for everyone, but the people I have talked about the cake with have thought it was fantastic.”
Although he was glad to show his support to the happy couple, Benjamin joked that there was another reason why he made the cake.
He said: “You never know, I might need his help if I’m stuck on the mountains some day!”
