A GWYNEDD wrestler’s quest for international stardom continues as he prepares for one of the grappling game’s biggest events.
Barri Griffiths, known to grapple fans as Mason Ryan, of Tremadog, will compete against 39 other WWE superstars in the Royal Rumble pay per view on Sunday.
His father Malcolm was delighted when he was told that his son was one of the entrants in the match, which will be held in Boston, Massachusetts.
He said: “I’ve very happy, and I’m so proud that he’s having this success so soon.”
Barri’s character will work with his Nexus team mates to ensure that their leader CM Punk wins the match, which is considered one of company’s flagship events.
Barri even gave his colleagues a Welsh-language team talk on WWE Raw on Monday.
The Royal Rumble is one of the biggest events in the wrestling calendar, where the winner is the last man in the ring after the other contestants have been thrown over the top rope.
The winner receives a guaranteed WWE or World Heavyweight championship match and Malcolm backed Barry, who has wrestled for WWE development league FCW for the past year, to do well.
Malcolm added: “I’m sure that he will put in a big performance and who knows, he could win it.”
The Royal Rumble will be shown at from 1pm on Sky Box Office HD.
