THE stars of the squared circle are ready to do battle in memory of a grappling great at a forthcoming wrestling show in Caernarfon.
Hard-hitting grapplers will battle for the Orig Williams Memorial Trophy when Galeri Caernarfon hosts an evening of American wrestling on Friday, January 28.
Orig’s widow Wendy, who used to help the legendary wrestler promote his shows, now runs the events, with daughter Tara Bethan as the Welsh-language ring announcer.
Wendy said: “On the emotional side I miss seeing him as commentator, holding the show together and making the audience laugh, shout, scream and applaud.
“He had a great communication with the audience and made sure they enjoyed themselves.”
The event promises to be a truly spectacular occasion, with wrestlers from across Europe, Mexico, America and Japan set to entertain the crowd with mix of traditional British wrestling, high-octane aerial moves and WWE-style sports entertainment.
Performers lined up do battle include former TNA wrestler Extreme Dean, the Welsh Dragon Dafydd Vaughan, Mexican high-flyer El Ligero and the ever-popular Little Legs.
Wendy added: “We try to appeal to all ages, especially the children, so they should expect to see some sensational acrobatic highlights, some outrageous villainy and some brilliant technical wrestling.
Orig’s daughter Tara Bethan said that being a ring announcer was completely different to performing as a singer and actress.
She said: “We did a tour in Ireland after my first show, and when we came back, I’d lost my voice.
“When you address 500 wild Irish people, you have to shout, but now I just turn up the mic and try not to shout too much.”
Tickets are £10 (adults) and £8 (children).
