A RESCUE team endured sub-zero conditions to help four people stranded on a Welsh mountain

The group of two men and two women from Ellesmere Port became trapped after their 4x4 vehicle got bogged down in deep snow above Llangollen late on Saturday night.

Unable to use their own Land Rover in case it also became stuck, two members of North East Wales Search and Rescue (NEWSAR) trekked for miles in temperatures of minus 10 degrees Centigrade to reach the group and lead them to safety.

Team leader Iain Ashcroft said: “There were four people in the 4x4 – two men and two women in their 20s.

“They had gone up to the mountain along the Horseshoe Pass for a drive in the snow.

“They ended up on what is just a footpath and not even a track. Their vehicle bottomed out and became stuck.

“They made a 999 call, which came through at about 10pm.”

Mr Ashcroft added: “It was minus 10 up there. The four people were all in quite good spirits and were extremely sorry for having to call us out.”
