HOLYHEAD Hotspur came within two minutes of eliminating Welsh Premier opponents Haverfordwest in an enthralling tie.
At the end of a seesaw fixture Spurs left Bridge Meadow on the wrong end of a 3-2 verdict with the decider arriving deep into the second half of extra time, Jack Christopher turning home a Lee Hudgell cross.
Danny Thomas put the hosts ahead in the 17th minute but from the restart Kenleigh Owen had Hotspur level with a superb individual effort.
The game remained deadlocked until the 80th minute when Mike Edwards stunned the Bluebirds with a 30 yard screamer.
With a famous victory just two minutes away Thomas fired an equaliser before County went on to get a third.
Hotspur are at home to Barmouth & Dyffryn in the league on Saturday (2.30pm).
Fellow Islanders Gwalchmai also went out to Premier League opposition, losing 1-4 at home to Port Talbot Town.
A lively crowd turned out for the biggest match in the club’s history and Gwalch responded with a performance to match.
The Steelmen went ahead in the ninth minute through Martin Rose but moments later Gwalchmai levelled from a Paul Tilbury header.
Rose then converted a penalty for Port and before the break Luke Bowen added a third.
Gwalchmai battled hard in the second half but were caught at the end as Sinclair was sent off for a second booking and Liam McCreesh grabbed Port’s fourth.
