FIRST half goals from Dave Morley and Jamie Reed maintained Bangor City's 100 per cent record in the Welsh Premier League at the expense of full timers Llanelli - but the Blues could and should have scored more.

Reed, making his first start of the season since returning from a spell in Australia, proved a constant threat to the Reds' rearguard and, as well as getting on the scoresheet, saw one effort disallowed and won a second half penalty that Morley missed.

The veteran midfielder made no mistake from the spot in the eighth minute after stopper Stuart Jones brought down Reed in the area and the striker soon had the ball in the net only to be adjudged offside.

However he made no mistake in the 36th minute as he ran onto a long pass from Peter Hoy and ghosted past Wyn Thomas before slotting home.

And Reed could have settled the affair a minute before half time, heading narrowly wide from a Hoy throw in.

The first 20 or so minutes of the second half saw Llanelli dominate possession and striker Chris Moses missed a golden opportunity when he headed wide with a powerful effort.

City keeper Paul Smith then earned his corn as he tipped over a drive from Owain Worlow at full stretch.

However for all their control the professional South Walian outfit provided more perspiration than inspiration and Bangor skipper James Brewerton was unlucky not to score a third for the hosts when he rose to head Chris Jones's freekick goalward, only to see it cleared off the line.

The best chance to wrap the contest up arrived in the 76th minute as the marauding Reed was upended by substitute Andy Legg, but it was de ja vue for the City faithful as Morley fired into the grateful arms of the visiting keeper, just as he did with his second penalty against Neath a fortnight ago.

A minute later Reed broke again, this time picked out by Chris Roberts, and referee Huw Jones must have been the only person in the ground to not see the  professional foul on the forward by outrushing Reds' keeper Craig Richards.

Llanelli's best chance of the game arrived four minutes from time as towering striker Rhys Griffiths somehow managed to beat the offside trap by a good distance and raced in on Smith and his goal, but shot wastefully over from the edge of the area.

In reply Bangor pushed forward and substitute Les Davies was unlucky to be denied in the 94th minute as he beat Richards to a superb Craig Garside pass and sent a first time effort past the keeper, only to see it cleared off the line by Antonio Corbisiero.

The final whistle followed seconds later and City celebrated a fine win that well and truly announces them as genuine title contenders, whilst Llanelli will head back down south knowing they narrowly escaped humiliation.
