NEWTOWN’S seven year stint in the Marston’s Shropshire Premier League looks over after suffering a 14th defeat of the season.
Only a miracle can save Newtown now with games against title chasing Wem and Much Wenlock along with matches against Albrighton, Reman Services and Broseley.
Newtown were once again undermined by their batting order, which struggled to 104-7 in 25 overs.
The first wicket pairing of Steve Davies and Brian Jones patiently made 29 before the latter was trapped lbw for 15 by Terry Hughes.
Hughes tormented the Newtown top and middle order with Davies soon departing for 10, to a catch behind by Adrian Evans.
Three wickets proceeded to fall for quick succession as Hughes maintained the pressure on the visitors.
Richard Smout was caught behind for two by Adrian Evans, before Tony Springer and Craig Davies were caught for ducks.
Dai Brown dug in his heels for the sixth wicket and finally offered Quatt’s bowling attack some resistance with an unbeaten knock.
However runs were hard to come by for Town, with Davies caught for two by Fleming off the outstanding Hughes (6-23).
Brown was joined in pushing Town onto 104-7 by Stuart Putson (13) and Dave Laird (10no) and ended unbeaten on 22.
Newtown drew blood early in reply as keeper Brown gratefully caught opener Craig Harris for just one off Joe Davies (1-24).
Skipper Adrian Evans provided the momentum for Quatt with a fluent 56 including 10 fours in a defining 64 run second wicket partnership with Craig Jones.
Jones was caught for 33 by Springer off John Anthony (1-24) with Quatt seen over the line in the 17th over by a unbeaten third wicket partnership between Evans (56no) and Dave Street (15no).
* Newtown IIs slumped at home to Quatt IIs by seven wickets in the Shropshire Reserve League.
Town were skittled for a mere 67 in 31 overs, with only Chris Bound (11) managing double figures as Aden Biddle (5-15) and Ian White (3-18) tore through the order.
Skipper Ricky Davies amazingly delayed Quatt IIs inevitable victory until the 22nd over in reply with a determined 3-40.
However David Jones (41no) and Geoffrey Bristow (14no) completed Quatt IIs seven wicket win with an unbroken 40 run partnership.
