WELSHPOOL were saved by the heavens as the weather prevented their derby with Alberbury being completed at Maesydre.
The clouds opened 34 overs into the second innings, with Welshpool chasing 138, while down to their last wicket, with Dale Evans and Ernie Birch hanging on grimly at 98-9.
Alberbury were indebted to a splendid opening wicket partnership between Mike Crawshaw and Neil Savage which added 92 to the scoreboard.
However when Crawshaw was caught by Phil Lewis off Nick Davies for 33 the visiting order suffered a collapse.
Davies was the scourge of the Alberbury batting order with a 12 over barrage yielding 6-37 to reduce the visitors to 138 all out in 39 overs.
Sam Birch (4-29) claimed the coveted wicket of Neil Savage who smashed three fours and a six in a top scoring knock of 55 off 68 balls.
Welshpool lost opener Rupert Shingler (5) early in their reply, with Steve Jarrett providing the breakthrough.
Jarrett continued to apply the pressure, with Phil Lewis caught by Ollie Corbett and Joe Birch caught by Crawshaw.
When opener Rob Birch was caught for 27 by James Hearle off Jarrett it left Welshpool on just 54-4.
Jarrett completed his superb display with the ball by removing Nick Davies and Llyr Thomas in quick succession to end on 6-26 in 12 overs.
Paul Chapman was caught by Crawshaw off Myles Thomas (1-14) for just three as Pool faced a skittling.
Thankfully for Pool their captain Dale Evans remained at the crease and pushed his side on with a patient 18.
However with Ben Davies (2-9) accounting for tailenders Sam Birch and Dave Jones, the Pool skipper was left thankful rain stopped play in the 34th over with his side on 98.
