A MOTORCYCLIST died in a road collision near Oswestry shortly after 1pm yesterday (Aug 22).
The collision happened near Mile End roundabout on the A483 road. It's thought the motorcyclist was involved in a collision with another motorcycle travelling in the same direction after completing an overtaking manoeuvre.
The motorcyclist then went across the road and struck a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The rider is believed to be a man in his sixties from the West Midlands area. He has yet to be formally identified.
Police investigating the circumstances today appealed for witnesses to come forward.
The motorcyclist was riding a yellow Triumph along the A483 towards Welshpool with several friends also on motorcycles.
They had just negotiated the Mile End roundabout and had overtaken a white Ford Transit van.
A police spokesperson said: "This is a busy stretch of road and we are anxious to hear from anyone who either saw the collision or the circumstances leading up to it.
"Anyone who can help the investigation should contact PC Ben Monk at Shrewsbury police station on 0300-333-3000."
A post mortem and inquest opening will be arranged in due course.
