A BARN fire which has burned throughout the night should be brought under control before the end of the day, firefighters hope.
The blaze at a farm in Sychnant near Pantydwr, Rhayader, is believed to have been caused by a stray spark from an exhaust, which settled onto 50 tonnes of newly purchased hay and set it alight.
The call was put out to fire crews from Llandrindod, Rhayader and Llanidloes at 9.12pm on August 19, and appliances were dispatched including a special water appliance from Builth Wells.
Around 25 officers have been rotating in shifts to bring the fire under control.
Despite heavy rain overnight, strong winds in the Sychnant valley have kept the fire going and fire crews have been there overnight battling the blaze in difficult conditions.
