Time to wake up says Wrexham FC boss

DEAN SAUNDERS described last night’s 3-0 defeat at Forest Green Rovers as a “wake-up call.”

After recording a 1-0 opening day victory against Cambridge United, Wrexham came down to earth with a bang at The New Lawn.

And Saunders, whose side trailed 1-0 at the break before conceding two late goals, admitted that Wrexham had simply not been good enough.

“It is really disappointing,” said Saunders.

“To lose 3-0 at Forest Green – no disrespect to them – I didn’t see that one coming.

“I did warn the players beforehand that Forest Green are dangerous, they are playing with a bit of freedom and the side has only just been put together.

“The three goals were all set-pieces, but to be honest with you we didn’t get off the bus for the first 20 minutes of the game.

“We were on the back-foot and eventually they scored from a long throw. After that we got back in the game and we had some chances.

“We came out second half and had them pinned back for a 25 minutes. We had to take one of our chances and if we had, we would probably have gone on and won.
But we didn’t take them and we got mugged.

“Although it was 3-0, it wasn’t on the balance of play. It is not good enough, we have got to come to places like this and get something.

“It was a wake-up call for us. Everybody was getting carried away on Saturday, maybe some of the players put that much into it that we didn’t get going and found ourselves a goal down.”

Don't bother commenting, two comments have been censored because they criticised this joker and the regiime he represents. And they wonder why no one buys this predjudiced rag.

I'd still like to see this in a little box on the back page though... It is fact that 45-50% of first time managers who get sacked don't get another managerial position in the game. Saunders should never have been given the job in the first place. A manager with experience is the obvious choice for a club which drops into the non league. We've had two seasons of failure under Saunders. We've played 2 games so far. This is his team and he should be given no more than 10 to prove his worth.
