WREXHAM FC’s former chief executive Paul Retout has been re-bailed in connection with a police investigation into allegations of financial irregularities.

In June the Metropolitan Police confirmed officers from Southwark CID in London were investigating an allegation of fraud which had been reported in September, 2009.

Mr Retout was bailed until the middle of August pending further inquiries.

Yesterday, a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said Mr Retout had been re-bailed until the first week of October.

At the time details of the police probe were revealed, Mr Retout vigorously defended himself, saying: “I can confirm that I am involved in an acrimonious dispute with a business I was previously a partner in.

“I can also confirm that no charges have been brought against me and my lawyers will vigorously pursue any instance of slander, libel or defamation of my character if deemed necessary.”

In July it was revealed Mr Retout’s appointment as a director of Wrexham FC had been terminated. His directorship of Wrexham Village Ltd, the associated company which is overseeing the development of the Racecourse ground, has also been terminated.

At the end of May Mr Retout announced he was stepping down from his role as chief executive at Wrexham on a six-month sabbatical for “personal reasons”.
