FRIENDS and family have rallied round a young woman who was badly injured in a car crash.
Bethan Williams, 18, from Abergele, suffered serious head injuries in the accident last month but has made a remarkable recovery and was able to leave hospital last week.
The accident happened as Bethan was on her way home from her job at the Black Lion in Llanfair Talhaiarn. Her injuries were so serious that she was treated by specialists in neurology at Walton Hospital, Liverpool.
Now family and friends are to take part in a sponsored walk on Saturday to raise money for Bethan.
Her sister Jenna, 22, said the money raised would help get Bethan back on her feet.
Jenna said: “I’m sure she will be absolutely thrilled. Our friends have supported us through phones, texts and facebook. It’s been overwhelming to realise how many people care about Bethan. It’s only when something like this happens that we realise what a popular girl she is.”
Bethan, who has just completed her A-levels at Emrys Ap Iwan and wants to teach, will now have to undergo months of physiotherapy.
The walk has been organised by friend Holly Roberts, 21, who works at a care home.
She said: “We were all at home worrying and wondering how to help her. I thought it would be nice to all do something together to show our support. Abergele may only be a small town but everyone in it was touched and affected when the word had gotten out of her accident and everyone would like to back and support her family all the way in helping Bethan on her long road to recovery.”
As Bethan’s car was written off in the incident, her friends want to put money in the bank to help her towards a new vehicle, as she aims to go to university next year.
The walk will be from Prestatyn to Abergele and the public have been invited to an event at the Departure Lounge in Abergele where a raffle will take place at about 3 pm.
