TWO Anglesey councillors have been suspended for a breach of the council’s code of conduct.

Llaneilian councillor Aled Morris Jones and Aberffraw councillor O.Glyn Jones have were suspended for four and two months respectively by the Adjudication Panel for Wales.

Cllr Morris Jones, of the Liberal Democrats, was suspended after complaints about the way he chaired two meetings of the council during 2009.

Cllr Morris Jones said that he was disappointed with the suspension.

“I made a full apology to the full council and the monitoring officer for this error which happened 18 months ago,” he said. “Before chairing the council meeting of the I sought advice from the Welsh Local Government on this issue.”

Cllr Morris Jones added that he was considering further action.

A Gwynedd Council spokesperson confirmed the councillors had been suspended as of today by a meeting of the panel on Thursday.

She added: “the council will not make any comment on the cases themselves, but will address the practical consequences arising from the suspensions."

Independent Original group Councillor Jones declined to comment.

His group leader Councillor Bryan Owen felt that the suspensions were harsh for a procedural matter.

"They are conscientious councillors who work hard for the council and for the island and I feel for them," he said.

I think it is entirely innappropriate that Aled Morris Jones should be suspended from his post because of a minor incident in a meeting. If we are incapable of tolerating the mentally disabled in our workplaces then what sort of nation have we become? If we do not make our work environments safe and open places for people such as Mr Jones then we have failed ALL of society, not just the learning disabled. Let's stand up for people less fortunate than us. Please.

Now that he has some time available, I would like to meet Mr Jones and do my utmost to become Mrs Aled Jones.
