AMBULANCE service worker Janet Jamieson kept a cool head when flagged down to help a seriously ill woman.
Margaret Fowles became ill while working at the Farm Shop in High Street, St Asaph, but while she was being driven home she suffered a heart attack.
Colleague Steve Douglas stopped his car near Rhuddlan roundabout and flagged down Janet who was driving her health courier services vehicle.
Janet took charge and with the help of a colleague a the control centre gave life saving treatment until paramedics arrived.
Margaret was reunited with Janet, from Rhuddlan, and gave her a bouquet and a special Welsh Ambulance Service award for outstanding contribution.
Margaret said she was extremely grateful that a good Samaritan had pulled over to help her in her hour of need, but couldn’t remember a thing about the incident.
The emergency happened on March 31 when Margaret complained of feeling ill and her colleague Steve Douglas decided to drive her home.
While driving down the St Asaph to Rhuddlan road, her condition deteriorated and Mr Douglas pulled over and flagg down Janet.
Mr Douglas said: “I was taking Margaret home after she felt unwell, I would not let her drive, she collapsed in my car on Rhuddlan roundabout and in sheer panic I stopped my car on the roundabout in front of Janet’s vehicle
“She telephoned 999 and followed their instruction, giving CPR and throughout kept very calm and collected. Without her assistance Margaret would have definitely died as I couldn’t have done all that Janet did.
“Janet showed me that she has the ability to help others and I am sure her job is rewarding but she missed her calling, she really should be a paramedic.
Paramedics were soon at the scene and took over from Janet. Margaret has made a full recovery and is now back behind the counter.
Janet said: “ I contacted our emergency ambulance control and to be fair the operator really helped me in what to do. It was great to see Margaret again, especially looking so healthy as she does now.”
Regional head of patient care services and health care services Julie Winspear paid tribute to Janet’s actions: “We are all really proud of the way Janet handled the situation and it’s fantastic to see that Margaret has made such a good recovery following the ordeal.”
