WATERSPORTS enthusiasts from across Europe will come to Bangor over the weekend as the North Wales Power Boat Show gets underway.

Organiser Ben Sutcliffe said that show, starts at the Faenol Estate today (Friday, August 30) was a good shop window for the boating industry in North Wales.

“About 60 of the companies at the show are from North Wales,” he said. “I cant think of anywhere in the UK apart from Southampton that with more main dealers and suppliers.”

More than 100 companies will show new and second hand powerboats, speed boats, jet skis, kayaks and accessories.

The £1 million, 48 foot Sunseeker Portofino powerboat is one of the star attractions at the show.

Sunseeker boats have featured in James Bond movies and Mr Sutcliffe was delighted to welcome the company to the event.

“It’s a significant step forward for the show and the industry in North Wales ,” he said. “Having a company like that gives the show an international reputation.”

Swansea Watersports will hold a Come and Try event which will include activities like open top kayak, and riding in a Thundercat boat and dinghies .

Mr Sutcliffe said that the hoped that the show would also encourage young people to live a more active lifestyle.

“We want to encourage people who may never thought to do so before,” he said. “We hope that the kids will try an activity rather that play Playstation at home.”

The RNLI will also give water safety advice and Mr Sutcliffe added that this was an important part of the show.

“There are thousands on school holidays,” he said. “People don’t realise the dangers and with the help of the RNLI to help ensure a happy week on the beaches and a safe water sports experience.”

Other children’s activities include a pirate beach play area and a diving simulator.
There will also be a chance to meet CBeebies star Peppa Pig.

Entry is £6. For more information visit www.northwalesboatshow.co.uk.
