AN ANGLESEY woman was left heartbroken and terrified after a fire destroyed her conservatory.

Avril Williams, 60, of Rhosybol said: “I haven’t eaten or slept since Saturday and it’s broken my heart completely.”

Mrs Williams’ son, Gerallt, discovered the blaze at 1.15am on Saturday morning after being woken by the family dog.

A member of the public had already alerted police and officers were at the door as the family, along with Gerallt’s girlfriend Aisha, rushed out.

“There is a gas pipe that runs through the conservatory,” she said. “Five more minutes and it would have been the end of us.”

Crews from Benllech and Amlwch used two set of breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet used to extinguish the blaze.

“There’s no one to beat them, they checked everything in the house and went through like a dose of salts,” she said. “I can’t praise them enough.”

“This fire is going to stay for me for the rest of my life, because I don’t know when they are going to come back,”

The conservatory cost £10,000 and Mrs Williams added that she would have to claim on her insurance to rebuild it.

The fire also destroyed prized possessions such as books and furniture.

“There are a lot of things that I’ll never see again except for in pictures in my mind, Mrs Williams added”

A North Wales Fire and Rescue service spokesperson said that the fire started in a shed in the neighbouring property to the conservatory. Groups of youths had been seen congregating at the property in recent months.

The cause of the fire is unknown pending police investigation.
