A GATHERING was cut short when 11 Llandudno people, including a young baby, were forced to escape a fire through a kitchen window early this morning.

A man and a woman, five teenagers and four children had to leave a first floor flat in Parc Bodnant in Llandudno after their outhouse burst into flames.

Among the escapees was a one-year old child and a baby of only a few months old.

North Wales Fire and Rescue received a call at 1.16 am on July 9, after a member of the household opened the door to see smoke and flames.

The group left the building following fire safety survival advice given by Fire and Rescue operatives who stayed on the phone throughout the incident.

Two fire engines from Llandudno, one from Conwy and an aerial platform attended the scene and the fire was brought under control.

Tracy Williams, a spokesperson for North Wales Fire and Rescue, said: “We believe that one of the teenagers had just passed his exams and so the group were celebrating.”

“We do not yet know the cause of the fire but an investigation is ongoing.”

No members of the public were hurt in the incident, but the outhouse has received considerable damage.
