A SIXTY-FIVE run derby defeat at Menai Bridge means that Bangor’s tilt at the Premier Division title is all but over for another season, whilst the hosts keep hanging onto the coat tails of the leaders.

Having won the toss Bridge opted to bat first and although opener Tahawar Khan was ran out for a return of just five runs, the partnership of Luke Jones (95) and Robbie Jones (89) proved extremely fruitful.

Bangor’s Iwan Roberts did some damage to the batting line up as he took 3 for 61 but ultimately Bridge closed on 262 for 6 in 50 overs.

The visitors knew a fast start would be required and Matthew Jackson provided just that, scoring 85 runs before being caught by Khan.

From there Bangor’s response began to peter out with only Gwilym Lloyd Jones (25) and Nicholas Roberts (24) making major inroads into Bridge’s total, totalling 197 for 9.

With a gap of 84 points between themselves and league leaders Llandudno, fifth placed Bangor now need to concentrate on picking up a sixth win of the campaign against fourth placed Chirk this Saturday.

Meanwhile Bridge’s fine win moves them to within six points of second placed Mold and will want to keep up the pressure with a win at Pontblyddyn on Saturday.
