Mostyn hosts eclectic exhibitions

WITH Llandudno's recently renovated gallery Mostyn now open to the public, a series of exciting and challenging exhibitions are currently on display.

A showcase of pieces by artists from across Wales will be on display until September 4 in the exhibition We Have The Mirrors, We Have the Plans.

Containing work by artists nominated by leading curators in six areas of the country, it demonstrated the diversity of work being produced in Wales while never claiming to be a definitive representation of its contemporary art.
Often ironic and mischievous, the display shows another aspect of the cultural smörgåsbord of our country.

Moving further into Europe, Danish collective Superflex also have work on display in the form of the visually arresting Flooded McDonald's which will be running until July 24.

Raising questions over climate change, the impact on our environment, the subversive and infiltrating nature of consumerism and our disposable culture; the thought-provoking and almost balletic offering highlights the relationship between seemingly disparate themes as a McDonald's restaurant is ravaged by rising water.

Quirky, original and eerily hypnotic, Superflex twist two recognisable occurances - the standardised fast food chain and the notion of flooding - into one captivating piece.

Carrying on the theme of the environment is The Junkyard Museum Of Awkward Things which will be on display until October 16.

Put together by The Junkman From Afrika, this sculptural exhibition has been described as 'a kind of artistic hospital' where discarded items have ben recycled and re-envisioned into pieces of art.
Enjoying a three month residency at Mostyn, Junkman will be assembling his museum in North Wales, making it the first time it has been seen outside of Nigeria.

Also showing on long-term display in the cafe and meeting room at Mostyn will be photographs by Darryl Lonsbrough from his Along The Line collection; presenting an off-beat selection of local and familiar locations in a strangely distant tone.
