A COLWYN Bay DJ will be spinning discs alongside Radio 1 stars as part of Bangor’s Big Weekend live music event.

DJ Jay Robinson, 22, who lives in the West End of the town, has been confirmed as one of the acts at the official warm up party to the BBC live music festival, where he will be playing tracks to crowds at the Time club in Bangor.

The night of music will see him performing his set alongside big names from radio as well as other local DJs.

Jay said: “There’s going to be Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Zane Lowe. I'm just excited to be honest to get a chance to meet them in person and put some music in their hands.”

Jay, who has established himself as both a DJ and a music author, has featured on numerous radio stations over his career and regularly appears in Bangor, which helped him secure his place at the warm-up event.

He said: “I first started DJing when I was 15 - just messing around in my bedroom. Then I started making music when I was 18. I have a studio in my house.”

Making waves on the dance music scene by tackling a variety of genres, the young DJ and producer is in demand having performed sets in London, Birmingham and Dublin. But although Jay confirmed he is living the dream, he quickly joked he is “still poor”.

“It’s all picking up,” said Jay. “I’m getting into different charts which is great. It’s all going forward. Hard work always pays off.”
