More than 100 people remembered Peter Dacre at a vigil on Bangor Mountain

THE FAMILY of a Bangor man killed in a car crash thanked residents who paid tribute to him at an evening vigil.

More than 100 mourners gathered on Bangor Mountain on Saturday to light Chinese lanterns and fireworks in memory of Peter Dacre on what would have been his 29th birthday.

Peter’s father, also called Peter, said: “I thought it was really touching - it’s really nice to see that so many people were thinking about Peter on his birthday.”

Mr Dacre added: “My wife Debbie and I would like to thank to thank everybody for their show of support.”

Many of the crowd wore Manchester United shirts in tribute to the United fan. A bonfire was also lit on the mountain. The fireworks and lanterns were released at 8.30pm.

Mr and Mrs Dacre, also lit Chinese lanterns in the garden of their house in Coed Mawr.

"It was our private way of remembering him,” he said. “Afterwards we went to Trem Elidir to watch the bonfire and the lanterns.”

The former Ysgol Friars pupil was killed in a crash on Friday, March 12, on the A4244 near Deiniolen.

The crash also injured 18-year-old passenger, Rebecca Jones, who is now recovering at home.

Residents of Llangefni, Llanfairfechan and Holyhead also lit Chinese lanterns in memory of Peter.

Peter’s sister Donna, who organised the event, was delighted to see so many people turn out to remember her brother, who was affectionately known around the city as Mush.

“They were all singing Happy Birthday and chanting his name and every one was commenting how you will never see anything like this for anyone else in Bangor - his death as affected so many people.

I had a special bond with him and its the only thing getting me through - he's taken the best part of me with him and life will never be the same again.”
