NORTH Wales Fire and Rescue Service are warning businesses and DIY enthusiasts to be extremely careful when using tools that can give off sparks after a blaze destroyed a caravan in Bodedern.

Firefighters from Holyhead and Llangefni were called to a fire at a commercial garage yesterday morning and used four sets of breathing apparatus to tackle the fire which caused severe damage to tyres and a static caravan.

The fire is thought to have been caused accidentally by a spark from a grinding machine.

Huw Roberts, Fire Safety Enforcement Officer for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said: “This incident highlights the possible dangers involved in using tools such as grinders or welders that can cause sparks.

“If you are using these kinds of tools within your business or when undertaking DIY, it is important that you make a risk assessment and ensure that the area you will be working in is safe and clear of any items that may catch fire.

"As well as undertaking the work in a suitable location, you should also ensure that you have adequate firefighting tools such as extinguishers to hand in case a fire takes hold.”
