THE mayor elect of Bangor vowed to do her utmost to help revive the city’s struggling economy.
Councillor Dorothy Bulled said that attracting business to Bangor would be a top priority when she takes office on May 10.
“I will try to bring the regeneration of Bangor to the forefront wherever I go,” she said. “I will speak to business leaders, Gwynedd Council and the Welsh Assembly and implore them to give us some money, for example from Europe.
Cllr Bulled, who was appointed MBE by Prince Charles in 2002 for her voluntary work, is involved with a number of community groups in Maesgeirchen including the Ty Cegin community centre and the Welsh Credit Union and Glan Cegin School Board of Governors.
She said: “When I came here in 1998 I had the opportunity to become involved with the tenants’ association and I never looked back,” she said. “It’s helped me live with the fact that I lost a little boy - people have been good to me and I try to help them as much as I can.”
Cllr Bulled, who attended Ysgol Faenol and Deiniol Secondary Modern with new deputy mayor Edward Huw Williams, said that both community leaders and residents must unite to turn the city around.
