MUSIC-lovers in Chester will be among the thousands of people bidding for a chance to win tickets for a major free music event in North Wales.
BBC Radio 1 have recently confirmed that the station’s annual flagship event, Radio 1’s Big Weekend, will take place at Faenol Park in Bangor, on Saturday, May 22, and Sunday, May 23.
The news was announced by Radio 1 presenter Chris Moyles as his breakfast show broadcast live from Faenol Park which also featured the event’s first confirmed act, singer, Pixie Lott.
Hosted by Radio 1 DJs, the event is the UK’s biggest free ticketed music festival and has a reputation for attracting some of the biggest acts from the UK and international acts to perform live. This year marks the 10th Radio 1’s Big Weekend and will encompass live music across four stages.
Coverage of the event will be broadcast on Radio 1, online and on demand TV.
The event will hold 20,000 people per day and the majority of the free tickets go to residents of Bangor and the surrounding area.
The leader of Gwynedd Council, Cllr Dyfed Edwards, says: “We’re delighted to welcome Radio 1 and its listeners to Gwynedd and are confident that the Faenol Estate will be a fitting stage for the Big Weekend. Hosting such an event is an exciting opportunity for us to show the wider world what makes Bangor and the surrounding area such a special place.”
