VIRTUSO violinist Charlie Siem returns to Llandudno for a concert with the Czech National Orchestra at Venue Cymru on February 14.
The 24 year old told the Pioneer that he was looking forward to the performance after playing at the venue in October 2008.
“Llandudno is a really fun, beautiful place on the sea,” he said. “I took a long walk on the beach before my performance and it really inspired me.
Charlie performed with the Royal Ballet in Cuba and, but he gained mainstream attention when he joined Bryan Adams at the Peace One Day concert in London.
He said that performing with artists from different was an important part of being a musician.
“The minute you start labelling things as classical or rock it seals people off,” he said. “Working with Bryan gave me good exposure and it was a fun project with artistic scope, which is what makes playing fun.”
After his first CD received rave review in 2008, Charlie plans to record a new album of songs from 1930s Hollywood classics such as 1934 film Intermezzo, starring Ingrid Bergman for release this summer.
“It’s about a violinist who has an affair, and there is a solo which I thought was so cool,” he said.
“They’re all such great movies and it was such a glamorous time.”
The Venue Cymru concert is part of a nationwide tour that finishes with a performance at the Raymond Grubbay’s Classical Spectacular 20th Anniversary at the Albert Hall in March.
“There will be a lot of crossover stuff on the tour,” he said. “I’ve got regular pieces for regular concert goers who know about the music, but it’s nice to get a diverse audience to play to.”
