AN ANGLESEY art gallery based in the Island’s most famous artist’s childhood home was opened by an entertainment legend.
Rolf Harris was at the opening of Galeri Ianto in Sir Kyffin Williams’ family home in Llanfaes, which features artwork from both men and a host of other renowned artists.
Rolf was impressed by the work on display at the Curwen on Anglesey exhibition, including Sir Henry Moore, Mike McCartney, Elisabeth Frink and John Lennon.
"I think that Sir Kyffin would have been thrilled to see an art gallery in his childhood home," he said.
Galeri Ianto also exhibits artwork from some of Wales’ best known artists, such as Donald McIntyre, Wilf Roberts and William Selwyn.
Rolf Harris’ lithograph The Crucible of Creosus is among those on exhibition and his wife, Alwen Hughes-Harris displayed glass work and sculpture at the event.
Sir Kyffin Williams moved to the large 19th century house on the Brynhyfryd Estate in 1926 and wrote much about his time there in his autobiography, Across the Straits.
Exhibition organiser Barbara Adams said: “Anglesey needs another large gallery to house the very best in Welsh and British art
“The success of the Kyffin Williams Gallery at Oriel Ynys Mon reflects the international interest in our local artists, and now Sir Kyffin's childhood home is to become a second sanctuary of Welsh Art on the Island.”
