CHARITY princess Shelby Watson is preparing for a record-breaking charity event.
The eleven-year-old from Amlwch is holding a two-mile dash fundraiser at the town’s leisure centre on October 28.
Shelby, who has cerebral palsy, has braved severe pain during her sponsored walks in recent years, but will use a wheelchair donated by former Anglesey
Aluminium workers this year, according to her father, Russell.
“Shelby is a lot weaker than she has ever been. As she gets older, her legs get weaker and she’s unable to walk unaided.”
“When we told Shelby she would be unable to do the walk, she was very upset.
When the lads at the plant donated the chair, she insisted not only on continuing but breaking her record by going two miles.”
Shelby will do 42 circuits of the indoor arena, which is the equivalent of two miles.
Karen Williams, Disability Sport Cymru’s development officer from will bring sports wheelchairs so that the public can join in the fun.
A crew from Amlwch Fire Station, teachers from Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones and councillors will join Shelby on her dash.
There will also be a tombola and stalls to raise extra funds.
Shelby has raised £13,000 for charities in and around Amlwch in just two years of fundraising, including the town’s scout group and Amlwch Young Fire Fighters.
Anyone wishing to sponsor Shelby can do so either at Amlwch’s Spar, the Dinorben Arms Hotel, Sandwich shop, Cafe DInorben Square and Amlwch Port Mini Mart.
Mr Watson said that she was not going to let her health affect her charity work.
“I’m extremely proud of Shelby, because she won’t let her disability get in her way,” he said.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if we see her bungee jumping or jumping out of an aeroplane in the future!”
Mr Watson added: “I would like to encourage as many people as possible to come and give Shelby a cheer.”
