ONE of the silver screen’s greatest heroes has come to Caernarfon for his most exciting adventure yet.
A production team have been shooting scenes for the latest Sherlock Holmes movie in and around Caernarfon. LLC Productions has been filming in various locations around the town, including the Glynllifon and Faenol estates and the Slate Museum in Lanberis.
During the shoot, Caernarfon was given a taste of the 19th century, with horse-drawn carts, period market stalls and actors dressed in Victorian clothes.
One of the many local people appearing in the film is Katie Thomas, from Benllech, who has a small speaking role as a prostitute.
“It was fabulous, as I only started acting last year. Filming was really hard work but I enjoyed every minute of it,” she said.
“My only other part was as Jack the Ripper’s fourth victim for a programme called Mystery Files – maybe I’m being typecast!”
Helen Pritchard from Clic, who cast most of the film’s roles, said the production boosted the area’s economy.
“The film was great for the local economy, as the crew ate in local cafes and restaurants, more than 20 local extras were employed and local people were employed as drivers.”
Helen said that the area had plenty of idyllic locations to offer film and TV crews.
“The area has some wonderful locations of all types – mountains, lakes, beaches and more.”
Anglesey and Gwynedd have become popular with film and TV companies thanks to stunning scenery and top quality production crew and facilities.
An episode of the National Geographic Channel’s Mystery Files was shot in the area this Summer, while scenes from Clash of the Titans, starring Nicholas Cage, were filmed in Dinorwig Quarry in Llanddwyn, Anglesey in July and August.
The as yet untitled film stars Prestatyn-born actor Ben Snyder as the legendary detective, alongside Prison Break star Dominic Keating and Torchwood’s Gareth David Lloyd.
Stephen Fisk, line producer with LLC Productions said the company had enjoyed filming in the area.
“Filming in North Wales was such an amazing experience for the entire crew. We were able to find everything here, including breathtaking locations, amazing actors and an abundance of resources.”
“Everyone here has been more than helpful and made this shoot a walk in the park.”
