Scrappy saved from cliff edge

CATS may have nine lives but a dog had an incredibly lucky escape of his own, after plunging 40 feet off a steep cliff in Moelfre.

Three-year-old Scrappy, namesake of the fiery nephew of Scooby Doo, had been out walking with his family from Blackpool when he ventured too close to the edge of the cliffs.

After falling over the edge, he landed on a ledge 20 feet above the sea, and his owners put out a call for help.

Moelfre’s RNLI inshore lifeboat and crew were soon on the scene, and press officer Dave Massey explained that volunteer crewman Martin Jones climbed up to rescue Scrappy.

He said: “Martin then successfully gained the dog’s trust, checked he had not sustained any injuries and carried him back down the cliff to the Moelfre RNLI Inshore Lifeboat.

“He was then re-united with his extremely grateful owners, none the worse for his ordeal.

“It’s not often we get called out to rescue a dog but the RNLI Lifeboat volunteer crews are always prepared and trained to deal with any emergency.”
