FOOTBALL shirts will be worn at the funeral of a popular Caernarfon teenager who died following a crash earlier this month.

Joshua Lloyd Roberts, who was 19 years old, died following the incident between Peblig Industrial Estate and Caeathro on Friday, June 2.

Mr Roberts was a well-known figure in the Caernarfon community and was also a student at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

He was a keen follower of the Wales national football team and was also a passionate Caernarfon Town FC and Everton FC fan.

More than six-hundred people attended a fundraiser match held between Caernarfon Town and Bontnewydd at Cae Stanley just a few weeks ago.

That, along with a fundraising page, has collected over £20,000 for the family of Mr Roberts.

His funeral will take place this Friday (June 23) and mourners are being asked to wear football shirts when attending.

The funeral will take place at Eglwys Llanbeblig in Caernarfon at 12:30pm.

Mourners are asked to wear the football shirts of Mr Roberts' favourite teams - Wales, Caernarfon Town, Bontnewydd, Gym Gym, Cae Glyn, or Everton.

The funeral will then move on to the new cemetery opposite the church after the service, according to funeral directors Roberts & Owen.

North Wales Police confirmed on Friday, June 9 that a 32-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving in connection with Mr Roberts' death and was released on bail pending further enquiries.

Following his death, Mr Roberts' family paid tribute to him by saying: "Joshua was a happy, outgoing hardworking man who had time for everyone.

"He was very well known in the local area and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and always had a lovely smile on his face.

“He was devoted to all his family and would give anyone his time. He was a great older brother to Roni and a fantastic little brother to Abi.

“The family wish to thank those who have reached out to them in this difficult time. We are absolutely heartbroken, and we would now like time to grieve and would ask to be given the appropriate privacy.”
