A FUNDRAISER supporting the family of a Gwynedd footballer who died following a crash has raised more than £7,000 in the space of just half-a-day.

Josh Lloyd Roberts, who was 19 years old and from Caernarfon, died following the incident between Peblig Industrial Estate and Caeathro on Friday, June 2.

Mr Roberts was a well-known figure in the Caernarfon community and was also a student at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

He was a keen follower of the Wales national football team and was also a passionate Caernarfon Town FC and Everton FC fan.

He also played for the likes of Cae Glyn Juniors before he moved on to the senior side at Bontnewydd, who he had represented ever since turning 16 years old.

Countless tributes have been paid to the teenager following his death, including from his family who described him as 'happy' and 'outgoing'.

Now, a GoFundMe page set up yesterday (June 5) has already collected £7,143 (correct at time of writing).

That tally was collected in the space of just 12 hours after the page was set up.

A charity football match between two of Mr Roberts' most beloved clubs - Bontnewydd and Caernarfon Town - will be taking place on Thursday, June 8.

The match will take place at Bont's Cae Stanley ground with a 6.30pm kick-off.

Entry to the match is free, but there will be a bucket collection on the evening in order to raise further funds in memory of Mr Roberts.

A statement from club coach Simon Jones on the fundraising page read: "Clwb Peldroed Bontnewydd will be fundraising by playing a charity match against a Caernarfon Town 11 on Thursday night at 18:30.

"If you cannot come along to support, we would appreciate any contributions which we will pass on to Josh's family. Diolch!"

Following a request from a close friend of Mr Roberts', FAW Chief Executive Noel Mooney stated that they will mark the teenager's death ahead of Wales' match v Armenia on June 16.

It is hoped that there will also be a minute's applause in the 19th minute of the match.
