AN OLD photograph of Carreg-yr-Halen has shown the changes to the tidal island in the last 100 years.

The older photograph, found by David Fairbotham, shows a lot more vegetation, a sandy beach and groynes in place.

In the current picture, the cottage remains intact, but the façade and lockers at the back of the beach are gone.

It is clear to see the site is no longer the tourist hotspot and resort it once was, when it was referred to as the ‘Menai Bridge seaside’.

The installation of sewage pipes, combined with the high tide at the beach, have contributed to it becoming less of a beachgoing favourite.
