ARFON MP Hywel Williams has paid tribute to those who died in the terror attack in Westminster and says Parliament was right to go on with business as usual.

Mr Williams, who represents Plaid Cymru, was not in Westminster at the time of the attack, but in Caernarfon along with his assistant Alun Roberts.

However, many of his colleagues including MP Liz Savile Roberts, were caught up the drama. More than 200 people and MPs – inlcuding Anglesey’s Labour MP Albert Owen – were stuck in the House of Commons Chamber while it was placed under a lock down.

Four people died and about 40 people injured, many in a critical condition after an attacker drove a car along a pavement in Westminster and stabbed a policeman. The attacker was later shot dead by police.

Today (Thursday) Mr Williams paid tribute to those who were killed or injured and highlighted the dedication of PC Keith Palmer (48), who was a husband and a father.

“My thoughts are with those killed in yesterday’s attack, particularly PC Keith Palmer who gave his life in the line of duty,” Mr Williams said.

“It must also have been terrifying for those caught up in the carnage on Westminster Bridge, witness to such a terrible event.

"Security in a large listed building with many entrances and exits is always difficult.”

Mr Williams went on to praise the police and staff at the Houses of Parliament.

“The Police and House security workers have always done a remarkable job ensuring the safety of those who work and visit the Parliamentary Estate.

“PC Keith Palmer was an outstanding example of this dedication and Parliament is sitting again today, as it should.”
