A HEARTBROKEN Anglesey family is calling for help to find its beloved pet spaniels – both expecting puppies imminently - after police described their disappearance as “suspicious.”
Police are investigating and a £1000 reward has been offered after Katie Bigham, partner Ben Kettle and their three children Finn (12), Angus (10) and Freya (8), of Bodorgan lost their dogs Belle and Flora on February 26.
Belle, nearly eight, and Flora, three, vanished from the family’s Tros Yr Afon smallholding, near Malltraeth at about 1.30pm.
The family used Facebook and posters to get the word out and have been helped by charity Harvey's Army run by Mandy Butler, of Cleveland, which helps people track and trap missing pets.
However, on Sunday (March 19) she received an anonymous phone call from a “distraught” woman claiming to have one of the dogs.
”We started an internet campaign to help the family bring Belle and Flora home,” said Mandy.
”Then, on Sunday at 11.02am, I got an anonymous call from a very distraught sounding woman saying she had one of the dogs – she then just hung up.”
Ben Kettle said: “The whole situation is bizarre – we don’t know what to think, whether they have been stolen to sell the puppies, whether they have come to some harm, or maybe someone even just taking them in thinking they are lost.
"They were last seen by a local farmer, after that we know nothing. The phone call is very odd though.
“We are heartbroken, the loss is devastating. As parents you try and explain to the children, you feel so responsible.
"It’s horrible not knowing. You keep hoping they are going to turn up, their empty beds are waiting for them. We miss them.
Katie said “Belle and Flora are an integral part of our family and our children are devastated. They are still waiting for them to come home. Our family is not complete without them.”
Belle is black and white, has a docked tail, a black patch over her right eye and spots on her nose. She has a two black ears, a saddle patch on her left hand side and a black patch on her rear, above her tail.
Flora is blue roan, a little taller and slimmer, with a full tail, she has a black patch over her left eye and a black right front leg.
Anyone with information is asked to call 07414 811 211 or 07947 866 582 or message via Murphy's Army.
A police spokesperson said: “New information has come to light and may indicate there could be suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.”
