FOUR primary schools on Anglesey have been outlined for closure to make way for one new super school.

Ysgol Bodorgan, Ysgol Dwyran, Ysgol Niwbwrch and Ysgol Llangaffo could be merged to form a new Church in Wales voluntary controlled primary school in the Bro Aberffraw area.

Anglesey Council has given formal notice of its intention to build a brand new primary school in the area and refurbish Ysgol Parc y Bont and Ysgol Brynsiencyn.

Anglesey education portfolio holder, Cllr Kenneth Hughes, said: “We’re committed to ensuring that our children are taught in schools which meet 21st century standards and expectations.

“This means investing in buildings which are fit for purpose, in the right place, which meet pupils’ needs and become a resource which communities can fully utilise.

“This new school and the refurbishments represent significant investment in the area - not only in terms of new infrastructure, but more importantly as a means of ensuring the very best education for those generations of children attending them.”

It is planned that both proposals would be complete by September 1, 2018.

Statutory notices have now been published in respect of both proposals.

Anglesey Council says improving education and skills, and modernising the Island’s schools is one of its main priorities.

Members of the public have until July 15 to submit any objections to the proposals to the Programme Manager, Lifelong Learning Department, Anglesey Council, Council Offices, Llangefni, LL77 7TW.

Any objections received would be considered by the Council’s Executive Committee in due course.
