A LEVELS - Anglesey education chiefs hail exam results a success

ANGLESEY education chiefs have hailed another successful year for A Level students.

Dr Gwynne Jones, director of lifelong learning for Anglesey, said 96.9 per cent of students achieved A-E grades, close to the national average of 97.5 per cent.

He added: “It is a pleasure to report that A level results for Anglesey schools are good once again this year and our young people are to be warmly congratulated on their success.

“The percentage achieving a grade A or better is good, and higher than last year.

"It is also encouraging that the A-E percentage is 100 per cent in a significant number of subjects. The percentage achieving the A* grade across all subjects is 5.8 per cent.”

While he noted the need to interpret raw examination statistics with care, Dr Jones referred to high performance in individual subjects:

He said: “I would like to take the opportunity to thank the teachers for their hard work and the professionalism, the students for their efforts and the parents for their constant support”.

“The performance in all subjects is commendable but the results in mathematics, art, history and the sciences are good.

"A significant number of pupils sat examinations in these subjects and the A-C percentage is good.

“In addition, the percentages achieving grades A-E and grade A in the Advanced Subsidiary examination were close to the national averages.”

The director also drew attention to the success of learners in the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Diploma qualification.

He added: “The Welsh Baccalaureate is an ideal preparation for higher education and employment and is a means for our students to access a rich and varied range of experiences and opportunities.”

Cllr Ieuan Williams, Anglesey Council leader and education portfolio holder, also congratulated pupils and thanked teachers for their work during the year and for preparing students for the exams.
