Man dead after crash at Caernarfon Airport

A MAN has died after a crash Caernarfon airport. 

Police and fire crews were called to the airport at Dinas Dinlle at 6pm today (Thursday, May 15) after reports of a light aircraft crash on the runway. 

A North Wales Police spokesman said that a man, aged 61, of the Rhyl area, was later pronounced dead in hospital.  

 The spokesman added:   "An investigation is underway by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau from Hampshire supported by North Wales Police."

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 17.55hrs yesterday to reports of an accident involving a light aircraft at Caernarfon Airport. 

One rapid response vehicle, one ambulance officer and the helimed attended.

 “A male patient was conveyed to Ysbyty Gwynedd in a serious condition.”

A fire crew from Llanfairfechan was on standby at the scene, while a crew from Menai Bridge also attended.

The North West Wales Coroner's office has been informed.
