Lloyd's bringing laughter to Bangor

Geraint Jones

RISING star Lloyd Langford brings his first stand up tour to Ty Golchi in Bangor on
Thursday, March 14.

Geraint Jones spoke to Rhod Gilbert’s cohort about the tour and his comedy origins.

Have you performed in Bangor before?
I’ve done Bangor University a couple of times.

I stayed in a B&B that cost £15 a night and had no locks on the bedroom doors.
I might bring my own this time.

What can we expect from your tour?
It’s the first tour so I’m going to do a mixture of older and newer stuff.
I guess a recurrent theme is my own everyday ineptitude.

How do you go about preparing a new show, and do you like to vary your set?
For this show it’ll be a mix of my last Edinburgh show, with other bits that
take my fancy.

I’ll do some warm-up dates so I can jiggle about with the structure.

I always like to do a bit of research on the place I’m playing and do some stuff
specific to that area, so watch out for my minutes of gold about the Menai
Suspension Bridge.

What was your first gig, and how did it go?Compering a Christmas party for local pensioners at my comprehensive school.

I remember it being a lot of fun - they were much closing to dying than I was.

Who are your influences?
Leslie Nielsen, Harry Hill, Craig Campbell, James Finlayson, John Sparkes, Daniel Kitson and Ronnie Barker.

What is best/worst heckle you've ever had?
I had a rape alarm go off at a gig once - that proved quite a distraction.
Fortunately it was a false alarm.

Are you going to make more of the excellent Ask Rhod Gilbert ?
Thank you but no, we’re not.

Rhod, Greg and I are hoping to do more stuff together - it’s just trying to find
time at the moment.

Greg’s so busy trying to defeat Kenneth (his tapeworm) and Rhod’s up to his neck
in panto, and we just can’t get our diaries
to match up right now.

Show time is 7.30pm. Tickets are £10/£8 from Pontio on 01248 382828
or www.pontio.co.uk.
