LLAY WELFARE 1
JOHN James’ Corwen were in seventh heaven at Llay as they reignited their Wrexham Area League Premier Division campaign.
Corwen started the game very much on top, dominating the play in all areas.
Calvin Davies twice went close before opening his account when a right wing cross from Elystan Hughes was headed back by Ryan Billington for Davies to nod home from eight yards.
Corwen kept pushing forward and they were further rewarded when Anthony Marshall played a low cross into the box for Ryan Billington to slot home from 12 yards.
The second half saw Llay come more into the game and they pulled a goal back when striker Nathan Humphreys beat goalkeeper Gareth Roberts from six yards after Corwen had failed to clear their lines.
This spurred Corwen on and they were soon two goals clear again when a good low cross from Ryan Billington was met at the post by Iwan Jones.
The home side then started to lose some discipline, as a Llay forward was shown a red for a reckless late challenge on Elfyn Roberts.
Corwen increased their lead thanks to a headed goal from Calvin Davies after some good work from Elystan Hughes down the right, while Davies soon completed his hat trick.
Richie Pierce played a through ball to the frontman, who scored with a fine 25-yard strike.
Davies wasn’t done for the day as he went on to grab his fourth and Corwen’s sixth with a low slot into the corner of the net.
Llay’s afternoon went from bad to worse as they had another player dismissed for kicking out at Anthony Marshall and the visitors finished the scoring through Richie Pierce, who rose like a salmon to head home from 10 yards.
