AN UNOFFICIAL supporters’ group of CPD Bangor 1876 Football Club has announced a new project to help raise funds for the city’s Abbey Road Centre.

The mental health resource and drop-in centre is a valuable community resource, which the Bangor Comrades have supported before through the sale of their unique branded football shirts.

Their new project, ‘Comradiation - Abbey Road’, is a compilation album of music from artists in the Bangor area, or who have a strong connection with the city.

Some have supplied previously unreleased material, while others have written songs specifically for the project.

Set for release via download on December 3, the 14-track digital collection features material in Welsh and English and reflects the broad range of musical styles that thrive in the area, combining tracks from emerging artists with those from well-established, well-known performers.

Bangor Comrades’ members Pete Jones and John Dexter Jones are behind the project, which draws on the help of veteran Bangor musician, producer and cultural catalyst, Alan Holmes, who was instrumental in assisting on the technical side.

Pete and John are both associate artists at Bangor 1876, whose role within the club is to promote the positive benefits of football in the community through the medium of the arts.

Pete said: “As a fan-owned club, 1876 strives to play a positive role within the local community. It wants to bring people together in many more ways than simply watching a game.

“We want to promote a spirit of togetherness for the benefit of the wider community through projects like this.

“When we approached the musicians involved in the project, all of them immediately said yes and wanted to help.

“We’re extremely grateful to each and every one of them. We hope to develop the ‘Comradiation’ project over time with further releases and possible live events in the future.”

‘Comradiation - Abbey Road’ will go on sale on, Friday December 3. This is a ‘Bandcamp Friday’ where Bandcamp waives its fees, so all money will go to the ‘Comradiation’ project, and then to the Abbey Road Centre.
