AN ELDERLY man was left shaken after two men broke into his home and stole a large amount of cash.

The distraction burglary happened on Ronaldsway, Rhyl, between 12pm and 1pm on Thursday, October 11.

The pensioner was visited by a man who claimed he needed to look at a fence in the back garden.

PC Sean Harrison, of St Asaph CID, said: “He distracted the man whilst another man searched the property. They stole a substantial amount of cash before leaving in a car.

“Whilst no force was used by the offenders, they used deception to trick the victim who has been left shaken by the ordeal.

“From viewing CCTV it appears there were a lot of people walking up and down the street at the time. We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have seen the men acting suspiciously in the area.”

The investigation is ongoing and police patrols have been stepped up in the area.

PC Harrison added: “I would like to reiterate that under no circumstances should residents allow anyone into their homes unless they are 100 per cent sure that they are legitimate. Any genuine contractor will not mind waiting outside whilst you seek verification.”

“I would ask residents to be mindful of personal security and ensure that windows and doors are secure. If you feel someone is acting suspiciously in the area please contact the police immediately.”
