FOUR new GPS is just what the doctor ordered for Porthmadog and Criccieth.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board has successfully recruited four new doctors for the Eifionydd area.

The Health Board has now taken over the management of the former Meddyg Care GP Practice after the surgery’s doctors terminated their contract to provide GP services at the end of September.

Four new GPs have now joined the new Porthmadog Health Centre and nearby Criccieth Health Centre, which has been under the management of the health board for over a year.

Wyn Thomas, assistant area director for primary care for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, said: “We are delighted to welcome four new salaried GPs to the area, Dr Sion Crabtree, Dr Meleri Evans, Dr Raj Basu and Dr Eirian Davies who will run surgeries from both Porthmadog and Criccieth Health Centres.

“They will be joining Dr Janine Bonnet and we are also pleased to confirm that Dr Safia Akram will re-join our team later in October as the Clinical Lead GP who will work across both Porthmadog and Criccieth Health Centres.”

Lowri Hughes, practice manager at Porthmadog Health Centre, added: “It is welcoming news for the community that four new GPs have been recruited to work at Porthmadog and Criccieth Health Centres.

“Three of those new GPs are also Welsh speakers along with Dr Arwel Parry in Criccieth Health Centre.

“We are looking forward to working closely with Criccieth Health Centre and improving the service we offer our patients together.”

The telephone number for Porthmadog Health Centre remains the same as 01766 514207. Lines will be open between 8am and 6.30pm daily (Monday to Friday) and appointments can be offered between 8.30am to 6pm.
