A five-hour rescue operation took place this afternoon after a climber fell six metres from a cliff on Anglesey.

Holyhead and Cemaes Bay coastguard rescue teams were mobilised after receiving a call at 12.25pm from a fellow climber, reporting the fall from Red Wall Cliff, one of the headlands at South Stack.

The climber was described as "a youngish male". He was taken by the coastguard rescue 936 helicopter to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor.

There was no immediate report on the condition of the man but a coastguard spokesman said at the time of the rescue that his injuries were not thought to be serious.

Trearddur Bay lifeboat was also launched to help with the rescue.

The coastguard spokesman said: "It was a tricky rescue because of the position on the cliff edge."
