CHILDREN of Benllech had the chance to learn more about gardening last week thanks to help from some retirees.

Pupils of Ysgol Goronwy Owen visited the Plas Glanrafon retirement development in Tyn-Y-Gongl to meet up with some green-fingered homeowners and brush up on their gardening skills.

School headteacher Tegwen Ellis says the youngsters seemed to enjoy taking planting tips and enjoyed the experience.

"The children thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon of gardening at Plas Glanrafon, and it was great to see the homeowners helping the children plant beautiful flowers, and enjoying each other’s company," she said.

"We are grateful to McCarthy and Stone (Plas Glanrafon developers) for inviting us and we hope everyone there enjoys their lovely garden over the coming months.”

McCarthy and Stone North West's, regional sales and marketing director, Fiona Brooks, said: “We would like to extend our thanks to the children of Ysgol Goronwy Owen who displayed some excellent gardening skills during their visit to Plas Glanrafon.

"A tight-knit community and companionship are among the many benefits of living at a McCarthy and Stone development.

"Local children gardening with homeowners at the development is a fantastic example of this here at Plas Glanrafon, and we look forward to continuing to build on our relationship with Ysgol Goronwy Owen in the future."
